Equating the equations , we have

8x - 2 = -4x - 5

8x + 4x = -5 + 2

12x = -3

dividing through by 12

x = -1/4

substitute x = -1/4 into equation 1 , equation 1 becomes

y = 8(-1/4) - 2

y = -2 -2

y = -4

Therefore ; the solution to the system of equation is ( -1/4 , -4)
