Richard was earning $10/hr working for Diane’s landscaping company. Diane said that productivity was decreasing, so everyone had to take a 20% pay cut, so now Richard is only earning $8/hour. After a few months Diane said that productivity had started to increase again, so she gave Richard a 20% raise. How much is Richard making now?

Answer:

Richard is making $9.6 per hour now

Explanation:

Given:

Initial amount Richard was earning = $10/hr

Due to lass in productivity 20% pay was cut

Amount Richard was earning after 20% pay cut = $8/hour.

After few again due to increase in productivity Diane gave a 20% raise.

To Find:

How much is Richard making now = ?

Solution:

Let the amount that Richard is making now be x

Then

x = 8+ 20% of 8

x =
8 + (20)/(100) * 8

x =
8 + 0.2 * 8

x =
8 + 1.6

x = 9.6
