I’m in the fourth grade and have an algebra problem (416 divided by x = 208). Even though I know the answer, I would like to know the way to move 416 to the other side of the equation to isolate x in the division problem, so I would know how to figure out similar, but more challenging division algebra problems. We have not yet been taught any algebra. I can just tell in this problem that the answer is 2.

Answer:

416/x = 208

Explanation:

the opposite of multiplication is division

so divide both sides by 416

1/x = 208/416

at this point you need to flip both sides

x = 416/208
