During an intense game of croquet, a 0.52-kg ball at rest on the grass is struck by a mallet with an average force of 150 N. If the mallet is in contact with the ball for 6.6 ×10^-3s , what is the ball’s speed just after it is hit?

Answer:

v = 1.90 m/s

Step-by-step explanation:

given,

mass of ball = 0.52 Kg

average force = 150 N

contact time = 6.6 x 10⁻³ s

initial speed of the ball = 0 m/s

speed of the pallet after it is hit = ?

we know,

Impulse is equal to change in momentum.

I = m v - m u

And also impulse is equal to Force into time.

I = F x t

equating the both impulse equation

F x t = m v - mu

F x t = m v

v = (F* t)/(m)

v = (150* 6.6 * 10^(-3))/(0.52)

v = 1.90 m/s

the speed of the ball after hitting the wall is equal to v = 1.90 m/s
