Actual Distance of neighboring towns = 36 miles.

We need to find the scale of map;

Solution:

Now we know that;

On map 2.4 inches = 36 miles actual distance.

So on map 1 inch = Actual distance in 1 inch of scaling on map.

By using Unitary method we get;

Actual distance in 1 inch of scaling on map =
(36)/(2.4) =15\ miles

Hence The scale of the map is 1 inch is 15 miles.
