On a class trip to the museum,5/8 of the students saw the dinosaurs and 7/8 of the students saw either the jewelry collection or the dinosaurs. What fraction of the students only saw the jewelry section?

Answer:

There are ( 2/8) students who saw ONLY jewelry Section.

Explanation:

The number of students who saw the dinosaurs = 5/8

n(D) = 5/8

The number of students who saw either the jewelry collection or the dinosaurs = 7/8

n(D U J ) = 7/8

To Find: n (D' ∩ J)

Now,as we know for any two sets A and B:

n(A U B) -n(B) = n(A' ∩ B )

Applying the same property here, we get:

n (D' ∩ J) = n( D U J) - n ( D)


= ((7)/(8))  - ((5)/(8) )\\=((7-5)/(8))  = (2)/(8)\\ \implies n(D' \cap J) = (2)/(8)

Hence, there are ( 2/8) students who saw ONLY jewelry Section.
