y = x - 2.... (1)

2x + y = 5.... (2)

Rearranging equation (2), we have

y = -2x +5 .... (3)

Let's multiply equation (1) by 2 so that we can easily simplify by substitution.

Therefore, it becomes 2y = 2x - 4 ... (4)

We add equation (3) and (4)

3y = 1

y= 1/3

Now, substitute (y= 1/3) in equation 1

It becomes:

1/3 = x - 2

x = 1/3 + 2

Simplifying with a LCM of 3

x = (1 plus 6, all over 3)

= 1+6/ 3

= 7/3
