If a regression line were computed to predict your final exam score from your midterm exam score, which type of residual would you rather have?

Answer:

Close to zero

Explanation:

The residual of a regression line is the vertical distance between the regression line whether is be above the regression line or below the regression line. The residual will be zero if the point is on the regression line. Therefore we would like to have a residual of zero or closest to zero. This would produce a very accurate regression line and model for the final exam score.

The residual is determined as:

observed value - predicted value
