Answer:

Total number of bottles of paints is 7

Total number of canvases 15 .

Explanation:

Given as :

Total number of bottles of paints = x

The price of each bottles of paints = $1.29

Total number of canvases = x + 8

The price of each canvases = $1.89

Total cost of pretax = $37.38

Now, According to question

Total number of bottles of paint × price of each bottles of paint + Total number of canvases × price of each canvases = Total cost of pretax

Or, x × $1.29 + (x + 8) × $1.89 = $37.38

Or, 1.29 x + 1.89 x + 8 × 1.89 = 37.38

Or, 3.18 x + 15.12 = 37.38

Or, 3.18 x = 37.38 - 15.12

Or, 3.18 x = 22.26

∴ x =
(22.26)/(3.18)

i.e x = 7

So,Total number of bottles of paints = x = 7

And Total number of canvases = x + 8

i.e Total number of canvases = 7 + 8 = 15

Hence , Total number of bottles of paints is 7 and Total number of canvases 15 . Answer
