If the speed of sound is 350 m/s and I would like to make an organ pipe whose fundamental frequency is 220 Hz, how long should the (open) pipe be?

Answer: The length of pipe should be 1.59 m.

Explanation:

Since we have given that

Speed of sound = 350 m/sec

and

frequency = 220 Hz

We need to find the length of the open pipe, its actually a wavelength of the sound to get traveled through the pipe.

As we know that


Speed=wavelength* frequency\\\\350=wavelength* 220\\\\(350)/(220)=wavelength\\\\1.59\ m=wavelength

Hence, the length of pipe should be 1.59 m.
