Answer: Kristallnacht is a German expression describing a night (November 1938) during which Jewish shops, synagogues and other places were destroyed by Germans. It was at that moment when scapegoating of Jews was officially initiated. It took place in Germany, Austria (which was occupied by Germans and made part of Germany in 1938, so called "Abschluss") and Sudetenland (originally part of Czechoslovakia but in October 1938 was made part of Germany as well).

Explanation: during this night many Jews were killed, some of them had to leave their houses and go to concentration camps. There was a pretext for all this - it was an "assassination" of secretary of German embassy in Paris, Ernst von Rath.

During Kristallnacht, businesses, synagogues, and homes were destroyed. Jewish individuals were attacked. Immediately following Kristallnacht, there were thousands of arrests and deportations to concentration camps.
