At a souvenir shop, all posters are priced equally and all maps are priced equally. What is the total price of 8 posters and 6 maps at the souvenir shop? (1) At the souvenir shop, the total price of 4 posters and 3 maps is $39.70. (2) At the souvenir shop, the total price of 12 posters and 9 maps is $119.10.

Im not entirely sure if this is the right way to go about it, but here’s my trail of thought:

X means posters and maps, since they are essentially the same price.

1)
In mathematical terms, they’ve said 4x + 3x = 39.70. However, we need 8x and 6x instead. We could just multiply the whole equation by 2, which would give us 8x + 6x = 79.40 as the total price.

To double check, solve for x by collecting the like terms:
8x + 6x = 79.40
14x = 79.40
X = $5.67

You could substitute x with 5.67 to see that it does again give a similar value. Keep in mind, the answer may be slightly lower, because we rounded to the nearest second decimal place.
