Let the width be W then the length will be 2W since it is twice as long as it width.

The formula for calculating the perimeter of a rectangle is given by :

P = 2 ( L + W )

48 = 2 ( W + 2W )

48 = 2(3W)

48 = 6W

Divide through by 6

Therefore:

W = 48/6

W = 8 inches

This means that the Length is 2 x 8 = 16 inches

Area = Length x breadth

Area = 16 x 8

Area = 128
