Phytoplankton are microscopic photosynthetic organisms that live in the surface waters of the ocean and are the start of most aquatic food chains. For a better understanding of their significance, here are three reasons why they are important.

1) They are the most important primary producers in the Earth's ocean.

2) They produce most of the oxygen in our atmosphere.

3) They help to regulate global carbon balance.

Hope this helps, have a BLESSED and wonderful day, as well as a safe one! Also, hope your having a good 2020 :-)
