Due process is the right that citizens have that make it so the government has to respect that individuals legal rights and they cannot be taken away. Due process actually first developed in England, but slowly drifted away from their criteria. After this, the United States picked it up, as citizens were already nervous that a repeat was going to happen with the abuse power that England had over the states. Due process is part of the Fifth Amendment which ultimately guarantees legal rights and fairness.
