Ashley sold 98 small cups of lemonade and 57 large cups of lemonade

Solution:

Let "x" be the number of small cups sold

Let "y" be the number of large cups sold

Cost of 1 small cup = $ 1.25

Cost of 1 large cup = $ 2.50

Given that she sold a total 155 cups

Therefore, we get,

x + y = 155 ------ eqn 1

She sold the cups for $ 265

Therefore, we can frame a equation as,

number of small cups sold x Cost of 1 small cup + number of large cups sold x Cost of 1 large cup = 265

x * 1.25 + y * 2.50 = 265

1.25x + 2.5y = 265 ----- eqn 2

Let us solve eqn 1 and eqn 2

Divide eqn 2 by 1.25

x + 2y = 212 ------ eqn 3

Subtract eqn 1 from eqn 3

x + 2y - x - y = 212 - 155

y = 57

Substitute y = 57 in eqn 1

x + 57 = 155

x = 155 - 57

x = 98

Thus Ashley sold 98 small cups of lemonade and 57 large cups of lemonade
