Tenths and hundredths become easier to understand as you do more practice. Once you get to high school you won’t think about it. .85 and 8.5 aren’t equivalent because the decimal isn’t between the same two numbers. But 16.10 and 16.1 are the same because the decimal is between the 16 and 1 in both. At least that’s how I learned how to do it.
