A rocking chair was originally priced at $80 but went on sale for 25% off. If Neha bought the rocking chair and paid 15% sales tax, how much did she pay in total?

Answer:

Explanation:

If the sale price of the chair was 25% OFF, then we still have to pay 75% of the original price. 75% as a decimal is .75. Therefore, .75(80) = 60. The sale price is $60. If we pay 15% sales tax, then we are paying 60 + .15(60) which is 60 + 9 = 69

The total cost for the chair on sale plus 15% tax on that sale price is $69
