The cost of 1 adult ticket is $ 9.125 and cost of 1 child ticket is $ 8.875

Solution:

Let "a" be the cost of 1 adult ticket

Let "c" be the cost of 1 child ticket

Movie tickets for two adults and two children cost $36

Therefore,

2(a + c) = 36

a + c = 18 -------- eqn 1

An adult ticket cost 25% more than a child ticket

Therefore,

Cost of 1 adult ticket = 25 % + cost of 1 child ticket

a = 25 % + c

a = (25)/(100) + c

a = 0.25 + c ----- eqn 2

Let us solve eqn 1 and eqn 2

Substitute eqn 2 in eqn 1

0.25 + c + c = 18

0.25 + 2c = 18

2c = 18 - 0.25

2c = 17.75

c = 8.875

Substitute c = 8.875 in eqn 2

a = 0.25 + 8.875

a = 9.125

Thus cost of 1 adult ticket is $ 9.125 and cost of 1 child ticket is $ 8.875
