Explanation:

Factor the equation.

y = 2x^2 +2x - 4

To make this easier, I divided the whole thing by 2, though that is optional

y = x^2 +x - 2

the form for this equation is y = ax^2 + bx + c

Now we have to find two numbers that add to 1, and multiply to -2. The numbers I find will be the x-intercepts.

The factors of -2 are:

1, -2

and

-1, 2

1 - 2 = -1, so this is the pair we use.

The x-intercepts are 1 and -2
