You plan to go snowboarding this weekend in Pennsylvania. The resort charges $15.75 per hour in addition to a $25 deposit to rent a snowboard. Write and solve linear equation to find the total cost to rent the snowboard from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The linear equation to find the total cost to rent the snowboard is y = 15.75m + 25

The total cost to rent the snowboard from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m is $ 88

Solution:

Given that,

The resort charges $15.75 per hour in addition to a $25 deposit to rent a snowboard

To find: Linear equation to find the total cost to rent the snowboard from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m

Let us first frame a linear equation

Let "y" be the total cost to rent the snow board

Let "m" be the number of hours the snow board is rented

Then the equation becomes,

total cost = initial deposit + 15.75(number of hours rented)

y = 25 + 15.75m

y = 15.75m + 25

Thus the linear equation is found

Find the total cost to rent the snowboard from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m

Duration = 8:30 am to 12:30 pm

number of hours = 4 hours

Substitute m = 4 in above linear equation

y = 15.75(4) + 25\\\\y = 63 + 25\\\\y = 88

Thus total cost to rent the snowboard from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m is $ 88
