Multiply by 3 in equation (ii)-

We get -

-6 x + 12 y = -6.....................(iii)

-6 x + 8 y = 10.......................(ii) [ Subtract from equation (iii) to equation (i)]

4 y = -16

y = -4

Put y = - 4 in equation (i)-

-2 x = - 2 - 4 × -4

-2 x = -2 + 16

- 2 x = 14

x = -7
