Write an equation of the line that passes through (7,10) and is perpendicular to the line y=1/2x-9

Knowing it has to be perpendicular, the slope of the new line has to be -2.

y = -2x + b

Plug the coordinate pair into the equation.

10 = -2(7) + b

10 = -14 + b

24 = b

So the final equation for the line is...

y = -2x + 24
