Jordan and Victoria are at the store. Jorden buys 1.5 lbs of ground beef and spent additional 14.53 on other groceries. Victoria buys a box of instant mashed potatoes for 4.00 and 3.75 lbs of ground beef. If they spent the same amount how much does 1 pound of ground beef cost?

Answer:

The cost of one pound of ground beef is $4.68

Explanation:

Let

x ----> the cost of one pound of ground beef

we know that

The cost of 1.5 lbs of ground beef plus $14.53 must be equal to the cost of 3.75 lbs of ground beef plus $4.00 (because Jordan and Victoria spent the same amount)

so

The linear equation that represent this situation is

1.5x+14.53=3.75x+4.00

solve for x

3.75x-1.5x=14.53-4.00

2.25x=10.53

x=\$4.68
