Three students are arguing over who can run the fastest. Student A says that she can run 2/3 mile in six minutes. Student B says that he can run 1/2 mile in four minutes. Student C says that he can run 4/5 mile in eight minutes. Type your answer as a number. Fractions should be expressed in lowest terms. What fraction of a mile can Student A run in one minute?

Answer:

1/9 of a mile.

Explanation:

Student A runs 2/3 mile in 6 minutes.

So in 1 minute he can run 2/3 / 6

= 2/3 * 1/6

= 2/18

= 1/9 mile.

Answer:

Explanation:

Distance = speed × time

Time = distance /speed

Student A says that she can run 2/3 mile in six minutes. This means that the speed of student A would be

(2/3)/6 = 1/9 = 0.11 miles per minute.

Student B says that he can run 1/2 mile in four minutes. This means that the speed of student B would be

(1/2)/4 = 1/8 = 0.125 miles per minute.

Student C says that he can run 4/5 mile in eight minutes. This means that the speed of student C would be

(4/5)/8 = 1/10 = 0.1 miles per minute.

Therefore,

Student B is faster

Student A can run 1/9 miles in one minute.
