Answer: 25 children

Explanation:

18 girls

Lets find what is 5/9 of girls who are reading

(18/9)*5=2*5=10 girls read

Lets find what is 3/8 of boys who are reading:

(40/8)*3=5*3=15 boys read

10 girls+15boys=25 children read
