Oscar’s dog house is shaped like a tent. The slanted sides are both 5 feet long and the bottom of the house is 6 feet across. what is the height of his dog house, in feet, at Its tallest point?

Explanation:

The opening side of the tent is of an isosceles triangular shape with the bottom of the triangle is 6 feet long. and the equal slant height is 5 feet long.

If we draw a perpendicular on the base from the top of the triangle then it will bisect the base.

So, there will be two congruent right triangles generated and from one of this we get,

Base =
(6)/(2) = 3 feet,

Hypotenuse = Slant height = 5 feet and

Perpendicular height = h (Say)

So, applying Pythagoras Theorem,

h² + 3² = 5²

⇒ h² = 25 - 9 = 16

h = 4 feet.

Therefore, the height of his dog house is 4 feet. (Answer)
