Question:-

If there are 12 moles of NH4Cl produced, how many grams of FeCl3 did you start with?

Given:-

  1. 12 moles of NH4Cl produced

To Find:- Number of moles of FeCl3 initially

Answer:- 4 moles of FeCl3

Explanation:-

Law used :-

  1. law of conservation of mass in an isolated system.
  2. law of constant number of moles in an isolated system.

According to the question:-

  1. From one mole of FeCl3 we will get 3 moles of the Cl atom
  2. Only one mole of Cl is required to form one mole of the NH4Cl compound

Given 12 moles of NH4Cl is produced in the end which means 12 moles of Cl2 is used .

So ,

1 mole of FeCl3 gives -> 3 moles of Chlorine.

⅓ moles of FeCl3 gives -> 1 mole of Chlorine.

12× ⅓ moles of FeCl3 gives -> 12 moles of Chlorine.

4 moles of FeCl3 gives -> 12 moles of Chlorine.
