Answer: 0.5764

Explanation:

By using the standard Normal distribution tables,

The value correspond to z= 1.2 is P(Z<1.2) =0.8849 (1)

The value correspond to z= 0.5 is P(Z<0.5) =0.6915 (2)

The area under the standard Normal curve corresponding to -0.5 < Z < 1.2

= P(z<1.2) - P(z<-0.5)

= P(z<1.2) - (1-P(z<0.5)) [∵ P(Z<-z)=1-P(Z<z) ]

= P(z<1.2) - 1 + P(z<0.5)

= 0.8849 -1 + 0.6915 [From (1) and (2)]

= 0.5764

Therefore , the area under the standard Normal curve corresponding to -0.5 < Z < 1.2 is 0.5764.

Hence, the correct answer is 0.5764.
