Answer:

equation : 5(b+4) = 3

b = -17/5

Explanation:

let b be the number

"sum of a number and 4" ---> ( b + 4)

"five times....." -----> 5(b+4)

"equals 3 " ------> 5(b+4) = 3

Solving for b

5(b+4) = 3

5b + 4(5) = 3

5b + 20 = 3

5b = 3 - 20

5b = -17

b = -17/5
