You could either find a common denominator which would be 4 and do 7 2/4 - 5 1/4 = 2 1/4 or convert them into decimals which would be 7.5-5.25 =2.25
These answer are both equal and these are both different ways to find the same answer.
2 1/4 = 2. 25
