oscar‘s Daphnis house was shaped like a tent. The slanted sides are both 5 feet long and the bottom of the house is 6 feet across. What is the height of his dog house, in feet, at its tallest point?

So, due to the shape being a triangle you could split the triangle in two to determine the height. This means that its essentially two right angle triangles beside one another with the hypotenuse being 5 ft long and its base being 3ft long. ( because we split the base by 2 so 6/2=3) Now we can perform the pythagorem theorum to solve for the wanted side (height). The pythagorem theorum is the hyptenuse squared equals one side squared plus the other side squared but considering we do not have one of those sides (height) we must re-organize the formula. SO the formula we will be using is hypotenuse squared minus side squared equals height squared.

Therefore,

5(squared) - 3(squared) = x(squared)

25-9=x(squared)

16=x(squared)

square root of 16=x

4=x

Finally, state your results... so we could say that due to our results the height of the tent would be 4 ft long.
