Answer:

In Francis Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby," Nick arrives at Gatsby's huge party but cannot find him anywhere. In fact, Gatsby does not to mingle with the guests, who sometimes do not know him. Thus, the main protagonist prefers to remain as unseen as possible to see who attends his parties and especially expecting Daisy to attend. As a result, Nick feels uncomfortable because he does not know anybody. Besides, even though he is isolated, he still tries to avoid looking lonely, so he goes to the bar.
