Because of overpopulation Polynesians migrated to what we know as the Cook Islands about 600 CE. Britain became a protectorate in 1888 but by 1900 the residents of the Cook Islands took control and governed themselves.

Answer:

The objective of this statement is to say whether the information is true or false, the answer is that this statement is False.

Step-by-step explanation

The Cook Islands started to be considered a British protectorate in 1888 and was annexed in 1900 and made a part of the dominions of Her Britanic Majesty. The islands were included within New Zealand's boundaries in 1901.

However, in the year 1965 was when the Cook Islands achieved self-government being identified as a New Zealand dependency and not in 1900 as the paragraph states, that is why the answer is False.
