2. Karen was making 3 types of brownies for a party. The first type of brownie called for 1 1/2 cups of sugar . The second type called for 3/4 cups of sugar . The third type called for 2 cups of sugar . What is the total amount of sugar Karen needs to make all three types of brownies

First, convert each fraction into an improper fraction.

1 1/2 = 3/2 and 3/4 and 2/1.

Find a common denominator... in this case, it would be 4.

6/4 + 3/4 + 8/4

Then, you can add the fractions.

17/4

Then reduce, in this problem, 17/4 cannot be reduced and can only be written as:

17/4 or 4 1/4
