Answer:

The smaller number is 19 .

Explanation:

Given as :

The sum of two numbers = 47

The greater number if 9 more than the smaller number

Let The larger number = L

Let The smaller number = S

Now, According to statement

∵ The sum of two numbers = 47

So, Larger number + smaller number = 47

Or, L + S = 47 ........1

And

Larger number = 9 + smaller number

or, L = 9 + S

Or, L - S = 9 .........2

Now, Solving equation 1 and 2

i.e (L + S) + (L - S) = 47 + 9

Or, (L + L) + (S - S) = 56

Or, 2 L + 0 = 56

∴ L =
(56)/(2)

i.e L = 28

So, Larger number = L = 28

Now, Put the value of L into eq 1

I.e L + S = 47

Or, 28 + S = 47

Or, S = 47 - 28

i.e S = 19

So, Smaller number = S = 19

Hence, The smaller number is 19 . Answer
