The distance between two cities is 145 miles. A truck can cover this distance in 2.5 hours. A car is 1.5 times as fast as the truck.How long does it take them to meet, if they start moving towards each other simultaneously?

Explanation:

The velocity of the truck is
(145)/(2.5) =58 miles/hour.

If the car is 1.5 times as fast as the truck, then the velocity of the car is:

  • 58 miles/hour × 1.5 = 87 miles/hour

if they start moving towards each other simultaneously, their total velocity is

58+87=145 miles/hour

Thus they meet in
(145 miles)/(145 miles/hour) =1 hour
