During your interview, your interviewee comments offhandedly about their political beliefs, which you do not share. These beliefs have nothing to do with your research topic. What should you do?

Question Options:

1)Get into an involved argument about the political beliefs

2)Find a polite way to transition back to your research topic or questions.

3)Throw out your research and planned questions, so you can instead make the interview about politicalbeliefs.

4)Take this opportunity to lecture the interviewee on why they are wrong.

Answer: Find a polite way to transition back to your research topic or questions.

The purpose of the interview is to discuss about your research topic. That should be the only thing being discussed. Anything other thing asides that including whoever's political beliefs should be avoided at all cost to avoid conflict of interest.
