Question:

Large pizza costs $5.50. The club has $40 in their budget that they can spend. How many large pizzas can they afford?

Answer:

The club can afford to buy 7 large size pizzas

Solution:

Given that,

Cost of 1 large size pizza = $ 5.50

Total budget = $ 40

To find: number of large pizzas they can buy

\text{ number of large pizzas } = \frac{ \text{ Total budget}}{ \text{ Cost of 1 large size pizza}}

Substituting the values we get,

\text{ number of large pizzas } = (40)/(5.50) = 7.27 \approx 7

Thus the club can afford to buy 7 large size pizzas

Question:

Mai had $16.50. She spent $5.15 at the snack bar and $3.75 at the arcade. What is the exact amount of money Mai has left ?

Answer:

The exact amount left with Mai is $ 7.6

Solution:

Total amount Mai had = $ 16.50

Amount spend at snack bar = $ 5.15

Amount spend at arcade = $ 3.75

To find: Remaining amount with Mai

Remaining amount with Mai = Total amount Mai had - ( Amount spend at snack bar + Amount spend at arcade)

Remaining amount with Mai = 16.50 - (5.15 + 3.75 )

Remaining amount with Mai = 16.50 - 8.9 = 7.6

Thus remaining amount left with Mai is $ 7.6
