The passage would lose its emotional impact and power. A first person narrative of slavery is filled with appeals to pathos and emotion when the story is told by the person who experienced slavery firsthand. A third person narrator would be slightly less immediate and emotional.

If the passage is changed to a third person point of view, then it would not be so appealing to the reader.

Step-by-step explanation:

If the passage is written in the first form or the author narrates his own experiences in the passage, then it is quite relatable to the readers of the passage.

But if it changes to the third form with the use of the signal words like he, she, him etc then it becomes a little tough for the reader to experience the same that the narrator is tying to narrate. The reader can not imagine the same with the use of the third person point of view as with the direct narration from the narrator's or the author's mouth.
