Some 5th grade students are collecting water samples for a science experiment about filtering water. Jason and his partner collect 720 ml, Julia and her partner collect 300 ml, Dora and her partner collect 280 ml, and Marcus and his partner collect 890 ml. How many one liter containers will be needed to hold all of the water?

Answer:

3 one-liter containers will be needed to hold all of the water

Explanation:

Jason and his partner collect 720 ml. Julia and her partner collect 300 ml. Dora and her partner collect 280 ml. Marcus and his partner collect 890 ml.

Add all of these numbers together to get your total ml.

720 + 300 + 280 + 890 = 2,190

One liter holds 1,000 ml.

Divide 2,190 by 1,000.

2,190 / 1,000 = 2.19

There is a remainder and so we will need another bottle to hold the extra.

There are two whole liters, and a little extra which will need another bottle.

Figure out how many bottles you will need.

2 + 1 = 3

You will need three bottles.
