A map of a new dog park shows that it is triangular and that the side measure 18.5m,36.9m, and 16.9m. Are the dimensions correct? Explain your reasoning.

Let the dog park be of ΔABC having sides ,

AB = 18.5 m

BC = 16.9 m

AC = 36.9 m

Dimension of Triangle is correct or not?

Solution:

Conditions for a figure to be considered a triangle :

  • It must have 3 sides and 3 angles.
  • The sum of any two sides should be more than the third side.

So, here we have ΔABC as Dog Park.


AB + BC=18.5+16.9=35.4\\\\AC=36.9


AB + BC<AC

Which is not the required condition for a Triangle.

Therefore the Dimensions are not correct.
