During starvation and long periods of time without eating, the brain eventually starts needing fuel in the form of glucose. After a long period of time, the body starts releasing carbohydrates reserves (which contains glucose) but they are in the muscles of our body and that is the reason why we eventually get skinny. Other reserves are in the skeletal muscle protein which starts releasing gluconeogenesis. Another reserve is in the tissues, that uses their fat and ketone bodies (which contain glucose). All these processes start “sucking” all the energy from the rest of the body and that is how the body starts losing weight.
