Question:

A maths club has 40 members. The number of girls is 5 less than 2 times the number of boys. How many are boys? How many are girls?

Answer:

The number of girls in the maths club is 25

The number of boys in the maths club is 15

Explanation:

Given:

Total number of members in the maths club = 40 member

The Number of girls is 5 less than 2 times the number of boys

To Find:

Number of boys and girls = ?

Solution:

Let the number of boys be x

Then the number of girls = 2x - 5

Also we know that the total number of boys is

=> x+(2x-5) =40

=> 3x -5 = 40

=> 3x = 40 +5

=> 3x =45

=>
x = (45)/(3)

=> x = 15

Now the number of girls

=> 2(15)-5

=>30-5

=>25
