The following are the three things that the author does to make the reader uneasy about the Westing estate:
The author describes the
flooded land
with half drowned houses covered by water up to the ground floor staircases and the
foul
smell
of rotten woods that is spread in the area.
The author talks about the
swamp
that is formed due to excessive
flooding of the river
that flows adjacent to the land.
He describes the small
junk walkways
that pass from behind the house and says that they are
not good enough
to walk on.
