The combined cost of 1 yard of blue fabric and 1 yard of green fabric is $ 10

Solution:

Let "b" be the cost of 1 yard of blue fabric

Let "g" be the cost of 1 yard of green fabric

Given that Latanya buys 5 yards of blue fabric and 8 yards of green fabric

Therefore, we can frame a equation as:

5 x cost of 1 yard of blue fabric + 8 x cost of 1 yard of green fabric = 62

5 * b + 8 * g = 62

5b + 8g = 62 --------- eqn 1

Also given that The blue fabric costs $2 more per yard than the green fabric

cost of 1 yard of blue fabric = 2 + cost of 1 yard of green fabric

b = 2 + g ---------- eqn 2

Let us solve eqn 1 and eqn 2

Substitute eqn 2 in eqn 1

5 ( 2 + g ) + 8g = 62

10 + 5g + 8g = 62

10 + 13g = 62

13g = 52

g = 4

From eqn 2,

b = 2 + g = 2 + 4 = 6

b = 6

combined cost = b + g = 6 + 4 = 10

Thus combined cost of 1 yard of blue fabric and 1 yard of green fabric is $ 10
