Hey there!

The equation is not true.

To figure out whether or not the equation is true, first simplify the left side by distribution:

3(x+2)= 3x+6

Now, you have 3x+6=3x+5, which, at first glance is obviously not equal.

However, in order to be sure, simplify the equation further by subtracting like terms from both sides:

3x+6=3x+5

3x-3x+6=5

6=5

6 does not equal 5, therefore, you have have proven that 3(x+2)=3x+5 is not true.

Hope this helps!
