Answer:

After 64 seconds, ABOUT HALF of the brands of milk chocolate ARE LIKELY to melt, and NONE of the brands of dark chocolate ARE LIKELY to melt.

Explanation:

Note: Full question in image attached.

The box plot shows a five number summary. In this question, we are interested in the median value which is the middle vertical line (of white box) int the box plot diagram.

Median: It is the middle value of sorted data. For example, median of data [2, 4, 5, 8, 9] is 5.

Therefore, in this question, the value of median will tell us the melting point by which HALF of the brands will be melted.

By looking on the provided answers, we can see that the 2nd option is only correct because of the following reasons:

  • First is incorrect because 64 seconds is the median value and it represents half. So, MORE THAN quarter brands will be melted by then.
  • Third and Fourth are incorrect because we can see from the box plot diagram, highest melting point of milk chocolate brands is less than the lowest melting point of dark chocolate brands. So, ALL brands of dark chocolate will be melted by then.
