Answer:

\approx 8

Explanation:

Given: The length of green paper is 12 inches long.

The length of Red paper is 21 inches long.

First, lets find out length of each green paper after it is cut into 3 pieces.

As given, length of green paper is 12 inches.

Length of each cut pieces of green paper=
(18)/(3) = 4\ inches

∴ Length of each cut pieces of green paper is 4 inches.

Now, as given Nicole cut the red paper into pieces that were the same length as each cut piece of green paper.

we know length of Red paper is 21 inches.

∴ Number of red paper pieces been cut=
(21)/(4) = 5.2 \ pieces

Green paper have 3 pieces and red paper have 5.2 pieces.

Total number of cut pieces of green and red paper are=
3+5.2= 8.2 \approx 8, as number of pieces cannot be in decimal.
