Answer:

Explanation:

d = r * t

Let the rate of the boat in still water = x

Let the rate of the stream = y

Against the current

24 = (x - y)* 4 Divide both sides by 4

24/4 = x - y

6 = x - y

With the current

24 = (x + y )* 3 Divide both sides by 3

24/3 = (x + y)

8 = x + y

Put the two equations together

x - y = 6

x + y = 8 Add

2x = 14 Divide by 2

2x/2 = 14/2

x = 7

x + y = 8

7 + y = 8

y = 8 - 7

y = 1

The boat is going 7 miles per hour

The stream is going 1 mile per hour.
